I am here to give you some tips and tricks on how to handle school and your full on dance schedule.

Use your skills as a dancer to create your own study techniques.

Most dancers are and always will be perfectionists. Through dance we have learnt to always try our best and push ourselves to our ultimate limits. We carry this through everything we do in life.

If you are anything like me I always wanted to see myself succeed and I was never afraid to put in the hard work. When your heart is set on dance, school tends to take a backseat. When you get those not so good test results back and see your friends get 98% you start to feel pretty bad about yourself. So I am going to share with you all the little things I did to keep on track.

Many people may say this, but keeping some sort of schedule really helps. I used to create my own calendars and stick them on my bedroom wall. I would write in giant letters what important assignments and tests were coming up as well as dance competitions, performances and exams. So I could see it all in order and make sure I was prepared for what's coming up next.

Your dance time table for the year rarely changes, so once you get into your new dance schedule it is easy to find the holes where you can complete your homework each day. For me, once I finished dance at 9pm all I wanted to do was eat, shower and sleep. So for my brain I needed to complete my homework in the afternoon. I usually always went straight to the studio after school. I learnt to block everyone out and not let anyone distract me until my homework/study was done for the day. Then I could enjoy my classes and time with friends without any stress or worry. The perks of the discipline of a dancer.

Use your skills as a dancer to create your own study techniques. I have always been good at picking up song lyrics, so I used to create little songs to remember quotes for English. Check out Hannah Montana's Bone Song and Dance!

I am sure that a lot of your dance friends are actually your school friends too. So if you are lucky enough to have some of the same classes you can form a study group. This will help with motivation to do it together and you can also keep each other accountable. Even if you don't go to the same school, everyone gets homework so you can all set some time aside in your break before or between classes to get it done. You may even learn a few things from each other.

When it comes down to it only YOU can help yourself. You need to be motivated to get the good grades so you can be 100% present in your dance class and not off with the fairies thinking about how you haven't studied for your test tomorrow.

I hope this helps you to maintain your great school grades while still smashing it in dance class. Leave a comment down below if this helped you, or if you have any more tips or tricks that help you.

Much Love,

Holly xo
